2.7     Pronunciation Rules: Accent before the [le] sound.

When you have a word that has the old-style spelling in which the "-le" sounds like "-el", accent before the consonant.

Exercise 1: Repeat each word aloud, going down the list.
able (ey-buhl)
amble(am-buhl)
ankle(ang-kuhl)
file(fahyl)
fumble (fuhm-buhl)
mumble (muhm-buhl)
thistle(this-uhl)

The only exception to this are [ckle] words.

tickle(tik-uhl)
trickle(trik-uhl)
tackle(tak-uhl)
swashbuckler(swosh-buhk-ler)
