Onomatopoeias: Words that suggest the source of the sound

1.       Crash (krash): Did you hear that crash?
2.       Crunch (kruhnch): The crispy noodles made a crunching sound when chewed.
3.       Cuckoo (kook-oo): Did you get the cuckoo clock?
4.       Fizz (fiz): The drink made a fizzing sound from the seltzer.
5.       Gargle (gahr-guhl): The dentist instructed me to gargle with the mouthwash.
6.       Gibberish (jib-er-ish): They spoke gibberish on stage before they knew the lines.
7.       Growl (groul): The watch dogs growled at me when I opened the door.
8.       Grunt (gruhnt): She grunted at the mess that had to be cleaned up.
9.       Hiss (his): The rattle snake gave off a hissing sound.
10.    Honk (hongk): The geese honked louder than the car.
11.    Hoot (hoot): The owl’s hoot can be heard throughout the forest.
12.    Howl (houl): The wolves howled at the moon.
13.    Hum (huhm): The drone made a humming sound as it passed overhead.
14.    Jungle (juhng-guhl): They piped in the sounds of the jungle for that exhibit at the zoo.
15.    Meow (mee-ou): Those cats will not stop meowing tonight.
16.    Moo (moo): The cows moo loudest in the morning. 
17.    Neigh (ney): The horses screeched a loud neigh as a warning to the others.
18.    Oink (oingk): Will you listen to those pigs oinking?
19.    Pop (pop): The bottle of champage made a pop when the cork was removed.
20.    Ring (ring): The bell for lunch is at noon.
21.    Roar (rawr): The lion gave out a loud thunderous roar when the other lion approached.
22.    Rustle (ruhs-uhl):  The leaves rustled in the wind.
23.    Sizzle (siz-uhl): Did you order the sizzling food?
24.    Slurp (slurp): He loudly slurped his soup.
25.    Snap (snap): Did you see that turtle snap its mouth shut?
26.    Splash (splash): That bus splashed water all over my new suit.
27.    Squelch (skwelch): The speaker quickly squelched that argument.
28.    Squish (skwish): Did you squish, squash or squeeze that bug?
29.    Thud (thuhd): The body made a loud thud when it hit the ground.
30.    Thump (thuhmp): All he remembered about the robbery was a thump on his head by a blackjack.
31.    Tickle (tik-uhl): Carolyn laughed when tickled.
32.    Tick-tock (tick-tock): That clock makes a distinctive tick tock sound that puts the puppy to sleep.
33.    Tinkle (ting-kuhl): The parakeet tinkled his bell.
34.    Twang (twang): The harp gave off a twang sound as its strings vibrated.
35.    Whoa(hwoh): I shouted Whoa! to the horse to make it stop.
36.    Whiz (hwiz): The helicopter gave off a whizzing sound as it flew overhead
